New DJI Osmo Action 2 in 2021?

Expecting the release of a new DJI Osmo Action 2 in 2021

It was very exciting to see the release of couple new products from DJI in the last two months. The all new Mini 2 drone and the Pocket 2 received very positive feedback from their first tests and are actually pretty good upgrade from their previous generations.

Also, earlier this year we saw the Mavic Air 2 premiere which easily became the most popular drone and we didn't miss the chance to buy it as well.

But now we have the feeling that there is a product that is somehow left behind this year and we are quite eager to hear some news from DJI in regards to a new generation DJI Osmo Action camera. 

And don't get us wrong, there is nothing bad with the current Osmo Action but we have couple new GoPro action cameras already so we believe it is time for DJI to release Osmo Action 2. 

One thing we should mention is that no matter that the first generation was released quite some time ago it remained very competitive to newer action cameras like GoPro Hero 7 and GoPro Hero 8 thanks to the very good firmware updates. 

Osmo Action 2 - product updates

Now, here there are some of our suggestions (or shall we say expectations) for what we expect to see in the Osmo Action second generation:

• Improved stabilization - the RockSteady stabilization did a great job while we used it with our Osmo Action but we see that GoPro is moving slightly ahead in their latest generation action cameras. We would also love to see the RockSteady working in 4k HDR mode as well.
• Bigger sensor - we know that is a tricky matter when talking about action cameras but we see that some competitors implemented larger sensors in their action cams with very good results and improved low-light capabilities.
• Improved 4k and probably 6k video quality - the video quality that we get from the first generation Osmo Action is very good but not in par from what we see in 2020. Also it would be great if DJI jumps to higher resolution like 6k or 8k to ensure long-term compatibility.

And here are the things that we love about the fist Osmo Action and would like to remain as a standard in the new generation for 2021:

• Front display
• Removable lens cover
• Easy menu
• Long battery life
• Adequately priced

Overall, we are very satisfied with the Osmo Action but we truly believe it is time for Osmo Action 2. Hopefully we will see its premiere in the very beginning of 2021 but of course it is up to DJI to decided when and how this product will show up and become available in stores.
