As we expected DJI focused on couple key aspects that were missing or not so good in the outgoing first generation Mini drone:

Improved reach and signal - the OcuSync 2.0 technology implemented in the Mavic Air 2 earlier this year was a real breakthrough in range capabilities. The first version of the Mini is well known for its not so good reach and wireless signal. Let's hope this will be sorted out in the new Mini 2. (CONFIRMED!)

4k video - resolution numbers grow bigger and bigger and it is quite natural to expect the 2.7k video to be left behind for a better sensor with 4k video option. (CONFIRMED!)

Improved obstacle avoidance - the first generation Mini lacked any front, rear or side sensors to protect it during flight. We expect to see better obstacle avoidance system in the Mini 2 with more sensors but still keep the weight on the low end. (NOT CONFIRMED!) - no new obstacle avoidance sensors were added to the Mini 2 (we guess that is just to keep the weight under 250g).

The Mini is a small and lightweight series of drones but we expect better smart battery management from DJI in the new Mini 2 and hopefully improved battery life. (CONFIRMED!)

New remote control - if the Mini 2 receives the OcuSync 2.0 we expect to see a remote control that is very similar to the big gray remote of the Mavic Air 2. (CONFIRMED!)

DJI Mini 2 price info

The price for the DJI Mini 2 is also announced. In the official DJI store the Mini 2 drone is sold for $450 for the regular version and $600 for the Fly More combo which comes with more batteries and some useful accessories.

DJI Mini 2 fly more combo

What does the Fly more combo package for the Mini 2 include:
  • Additional 2x batteries
  • Bag
  • Additional propellers
  • Two-way charging hub
  • Spare controller sticks
  • DJI USB Charger

It looks like for the additional $150 DJI included a lot of kit in the Fly more combo so it is definitely worth spending the extra cash.

We hope that soon we will have the chance to make a full consumer test and review of the new Mini 2 drone.
Meanwhile, please let us know what is your feedback about the Mini 2, do you like it and would you prefer it over the more expensive Air 2.

This would be the new best-selling drone for sure. Just missing some obstacle avoidance sensors but I guess the Mini 2 has good controls so no big deal really.
